Hope in a jar. For years, Madison Avenue has tunneled our vision with the idea that youth, beauty and love come from something outside ourselves. An outmoded idea we decidedly did not wish to perpetuate. Our approach to creating duross & langel is basic. It reflects our approach to living. Make responsible choices that affect a change for the better.

There is a great deal of chatter about what is safe in cosmetics and skincare products. The old axiom “don’t believe everything you read” certainly holds true. When developing our brand, we set out to create the next generation of body and skin care. As we went through the process to achieve this goal, we found a great deal of misleading information and an unfortunate truth that very few products can actually be 100% natural even though by law, they can call themselves all-natural. Even the most natural product ingredients go through a process during formulation while modern chemistry offers some amazing approaches to formulation.
Not everything natural is good.
Not everything synthesized is bad.
If you find yourself confused or concerned about something in our ingredient list, check out the American Cancer Society’s website, or the National Institute of Health, the FDA or the World Health Organization.

We’ve worked hard to be responsible in developing the products and the packaging for duross & langel. Our job is to offer you and your family some good clean fun at a great price. Our products are as free of synthetic ingredients as can allow for in safety, effectiveness and esthetic appeal. Some of our products are scented with essential oils, others with fragrance oils. Our colors are derived from natural micas and logwoods as well as employing natural sources that have been synthesized for use in food.

98% of all ingredients in duross & langel are derived from botanical sources. Our packaging meets the highest standards of environmental responsibility available for safe cosmetics today. Bottles and jars are 100% recyclable. Our boxes and bags are made with 100% recycled paper.

james and i opened our soap shop in november of 2004
in a little store front east of broad in philadelphia's
midtown village neighborhood.
we began with just a few bottled products
under our own label. the goal for our growth was simple,
to offer great products at a great price.
product development has been my passion for many years.
i enjoy good swag but overpriced brands led me to
envision a new way of doing business.

both our store and the D&L brand have greatly
expanded in the past few years. at our lab
(nestled in the foothills of susquahanna valley)
we continue to create our products in small batch
quantities that improve the line while
keeping preservatives to a minimum.
our commitment is to quality and value.
that's why we put our names on every label.

we hope you'll come by and visit the soap makers at work.
on the workshops page you'll find hands-on classes
and monthly in-store events where you can sample
our products and have some good clean fun!
